Jay, Allen, 1831-1910 (Alum, Administrator)
Person
Biography
Allen Jay (1831-1910) was a student in the boarding school in 1851-1852. He returned to Earlham as an administrator in 1883. A much-loved Quaker minister, he was also an energetic fundraiser. Criticized for taking a donation from a Richmond saloonkeeper, Jay’s response was that the saloonkeeper’s money had worked for the devil long enough, now it was time for it to work for the Lord.
