Biography
William Penn Pinkham, a native of Maine, served as acting president in 1883-84.
Pinkham came to Earlham to teach English in 1879, despite the fact that he had never attended college. HA recorded Friends minister, he had taught in several Quaker academies. After leaving Earlham and teaching in Quaker Bible colleges in Ohio and California, he became a fierce critic of what he perceived as the college’s “unsoundness” on theological issues.
