Biography

Luzena Thornburg (1833-1911) was born into a North Carolina Quaker family and moved to Carthage, Indiana, as a child. A student in Friends Boarding School, in 1859 she was in the college’s first class and in 1862 became half of its first graduating class. She spent the rest of her life teaching in Quaker schools and as a librarian.
