Biography
Joe Elmore (1926-2016), a Texan, came to Earlham in 1957 as a religion professor and director of student counseling. Landrum Bolling made him a presidential assistant, and he was appointed academic dean in 1965. To that he added the position of provost in 1975. He left Earlham to return to Texas in 1981. As dean, Elmore gave special attention to increasing the number of women and minority faculty.
