Elias Hicks Collection
Elias Hicks (1748-1830) was a Quaker minister from Long Island at the center of the separation of 1827-1828. This collection consists of photocopies of materials collected by Gilbert S. Cope (1840-1928), including a copy of the testimony of disownment against Hicks by Westbury and Jericho Monthly Meeting, and a typescript entitled, "An Attempt to Defend the Position of Elias Hicks."
Elihu Swain Diary
Elihu Swain (1795-1839), a native of Guilford County, North Carolina, was an Orthodox Friend of Union County, Ind. His diaries for 1826-1827 and 1836-1837 describe farming, clearing land, and other aspects of Indiana life in the period. Purchase, 2005.
Elijah Coate Collection
Elijah Coate (1812-1886) was a native of Miami County, Ohio, who died in Richmond, Ind. The collection consists of an autobiography, apparently written near the end of his life, and a sermon preached at Economy, Ind., in 1863. Coate, born a Quaker, later became a Wesleyan Methodist minister. The autobiography includes considerable material on Coate's opposition to slavery. Copy of original in Wayne County Historical Society, acquired 1998.

The Elijah Coffin Papers consist of the diary (1848-61), correspondence, and miscellaneous papers of Elijah Coffin (1798-1862). The diary was published in 1863 as The Life of Elijah Coffin.
Elisha Bates Collection
Elisha Bates (1780-1861), a native of York County, Virginia, was a prominent Friend in Ohio Yearly Meeting in the 1820s and 1830s. The collection consists of 3 items: a genealogical outline, a photocopy of a portrait of Bates, and a copy of Bates's appointment as a delegate to the World's Peace Convention in 1850.
Eliza B. (Thornberry) Ogborn Collection
Eliza B. (Thornberry) Ogborn (1820-1908) was an Orthodox Quaker woman and teacher in various places in Ohio and Indiana. This collection consists of her Family Bible record and two receipts for teaching in Clinton County, Ohio, in 1850 and 1853. Gift of Betty Rogers Blickenstaff, 1995.

Elizabeth H. Jackson Collection
Elizabeth H. Jackson (1813-1901) was a Hicksite Friend born in Darby, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Halliday Jackson (1771-1835), a prominent Quaker minister. In 1840 she married Thomas C. Bell, and spent the rest of her life in New York. This collection consists of a copybook she made while a student at Westtown School. Purchase, 2008.
