Hosea Smith Family Papers
Hosea Smith (1773-1846), was a Friend living in Perquimans County, North Carolina, disowned in 1810 for selling two slaves. In the same year he brought his family to Pike County, Ind. The papers consist of letters written by Hosea Smith 1810-1823, to relatives in North Carolina, a family history begun by Hosea in 1844 and continued by descendants until 1920, and miscellaneous accounts. Joshua Bailey Account Book
Joshua Bailey (1747-1824) was a Quaker farmer and merchant of Sussex and Southampton counties, Virginia. This volume contains his business accounts, many relating to the settlement of estates. Use of the volume was contained, 1833-1869, by another unknown person in Springborough, Warren County, Ohio. Included are family records for Joshua Bailey, his siblings and descendants, and a few records of Black Water Monthly Meeting, Virginia, and Springborough Monthly Meeting, Ohio.
Henry Underwood Johnson
Henry Underwood Johnson (1850-1939), att. 1867-1869, was a Richmond attorney, state legislator, and member of the US House of Representatives 1891-1899. These letters, written almost daily, are to his brother Robert U. Johnson (1853-1937), New York City literateur and editor of the Century magazine. They contain family and local news as well as Henry U. Johnson's political and social views. Gift of Meredith Johnson, 1942.
