Sara E. Hadley (1918-1995), a Kansas Friend, was a teacher in the Friends School at Ramallah, Palestine, in 1946-1947. These letters to her family include unusually detailed accounts of life in Palestine in the last days of the British Mandate. Hadley comments on Quaker affairs, local customs, politics, and terrorism.

Joseph Foulke, Jr. (1827-1906) was a Hicksite Quaker teacher and physician who spent most of his life in the Philadelphia area but died in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Most of these letters date from 1845 to 1848 and concern Quaker schools. Several are from Joesph Foulke Jr.'s brother Thomas Foulke (1817-1888) of New York City, the father of William Dudley Foulke (1850-1935), the Richmond, Ind., editor and author.
