Christiana Kirk, Mt. Pleasant, Ohio, to Jehu Lewis, Fredericktown, Ohio, als, 7th Mo. 22, 1842. Christiana (Hall) Kirk (1812-1894), wife of Elisha Kirk, was an Orthodox Friend who lived in Jefferson and Columbiana counties, Ohio. Acquisition Type

Samuel Stephenson, New Petersburgh, Highland County, Ohio, to R. Boak, Lebanon, Ohio, als, July 19, 1845. Reference to his first "little Quaker wife" and Highland County reference implies that this is the Samuel Stephenson who married Mary Overman in Highland County, Dec. 2, 1834.

Clinton Martindale, Hagerstown, Indiana, to son George Martindale, San Francisco, California, Aug 15, 1904, als, re: dangers of typhoid fever. On letterhead of Newcomb House, Hagerstown, Ind. Clinton Martindale (1847-1921) was a farmer who lived near Hagerstown, Wayne County, Indiana.

William H. Ladd, Richmond, Ohio, to Samuel Patterson, Washington County, Pennsylvania, 11th Mo. 2, 1846, als re: sale of Saxony lambs and travels in Indiana and Kentucky. William H. Ladd (1823-1890) was a Gurneyite Friend and recorded minister who lived in Ohio, New York, and Philadelphia.

G. Sheldon, Salem County, Ohio, to "Brother Brigham," New York City, Nov. 12, 1845, als, re: work for American Bible Society in Columbiana, Jefferson, Carroll, and Harrison counties, Ohio.

Thomas Grover, Cleveland, Ohio, to T. E. Grover, West Mansfield, Massachusetts, 9th Mo. 17, 1864, re: Thomas Grover's travels in Pennsylvania and Ohio. Thomas Grover (1807-1893) was a resident of West Mansfield, Massachusetts, and a recorded minister in the Gurneyite New England Yearly Meeting.

Lorinda -------, Hagerstown, Indiana, to Mary E. Newcomb, Mayville, New York, Aug. 31, [1874], als, re: death of "Mother Groves," local events. The letter is dated only Aug. 31. The reference to the funeral of "Mother Groves" implies 1874, as Nancy Groves, wife of David Groves, died Aug. 22, 1874, aged 58 years, and is buried at West Lawn Cemetery in Hagerstown. The writer may be Lorinda (Smith) Bohrer (1832-1922), who was the only Lorinda on the 1870 Hagerstown, Indiana, census.

Nellie B. Elyson, East Westville, Ohio, to Rachel W. Cope, Redstone, Pennsylvania, 7th Mo. 16, 1854, als, re: schoolmates and acquaintances. Ellen B. Ellyson (1833-1922), daughter of Robert and Hannah (Butler) Ellyson of Mahoning County, Ohio, was a Conservative Friend who married Jehu L. Kite in 1869 and died in Salem, Iowa. Rachel W. Cope (1835-1920) was a member of Providence Monthly Meeting, Fayette County, Pennsylvania.
