Elwood and Luella Garner Papers

Scope and Contents The Elwood and Luella Garner Papers reflect Quaker life in Indiana at the end of the nineteenth centurry. The letters and diaries include comments on religion, education, politics, and other facets of rural life. The Garner Papers consist of four diaries kept by Elwood Garner from 1887 to 1891 and letters between Elwood and Luella before and after their marriage. Elwood C. Perisho Papers

Elwood Chappell Perisho (1862-1935), was an 1887 graduate of Earlham College, a geologist, and a long-time member of the faculties of the University and State College of South Dakota and Guilford College. Elwood C. Siler

Elwood C. Siler (1831-1896) was a prominent Gurneyite Quaker minister and revivalist of Parke County, Ind. The collection consists of photocopies of his marriage certificate, 1852, to Martha Morris, entries from the Siler family Bible, and a dim photograph.

Elwood J. Meredith Papers

Elwood J. Meredith (1902-1967) was a 1924 graduate of Earlham College, a physician, and an active member of First Friends Meeting in Richmond, Indiana. This small collection relates to Meredith’s service on the Building Committee of the Five Years Meeting of Friends in 1950-54, which oversaw the construction of the present Friends united Meeting headquarters. Elwood O. Johnson (1900-1988) was an Iowa Quaker and Farm Bureau official. This collection consists of letters and reports concerning his work with the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration in China in 1946, along with detailed accounts of his abnegations and impressions of Chinese life.
