John Henley (1815-1899) was an Orthodox Friend of Wayne County, Indiana. This collection consists of his 1835 autograph book from Whitewater Friends School; the Road District No. 2, New Garden Township, Superintendent's Book for 1848-1849; and a personal account book for 1857; a certificate from his 80th birthday celebration; and abstracts from the records of New Garden Monthly Meeting, 1843-1869, concerning Henley activities. John L. DeForest Collection

In 1998 DeForest created “A Fifty-Year Memoir of a Connecticut Friends Meeting.”  Based on his personal diaries, it is a chronicle of events in the life of the Stamford-Greenwich Friends Meeting. De Forest’s “Fifty Year Memoir” is an unusual glimpse at Quaker life in New England for over half a century.  It includes accounts of meetings for worship; the building and repair of a meeting house; guest speakers; various kinds of social activism; social gatherings; and committee meetings.

John Nixon (1883-1983) was one of Indiana's best-known collectors of art, documents, and rare books and pamphlets. He was the owner of a number of the manuscripts, books, and pamphlets in Earlham's Friends Collection. The John Nixon Collection includes mainly manuscripts, ephemera, and research material that relate to Nixon himself and his collecting or which did not have integrity as separate collections.

John S. Harned Diary

John S. Harned, Sr. (1796-1880) was an Orthodox Friend and a miller and farmer in Washington County, Ind. This is a typescript of excerpts of a diary that Harned kept from 1859-1865, apparently edited by Ethel Trueblood. Included is a photograph of Harned and his wife, Ruth (Green) Harned. Transferred from D. Elton Trueblood Collection, 1995.
