Nancy Parker McDowell Papers

Nancy Parker McDowell is the wife of James McDowell, professor of psychology at Earlham from 1951 to 1980. The collection consists of copies of letters written while she was teaching at the Friends School at Ramallah, Palestine, 1939-1940, and poems written for Earlham events from the 1950s to to the 1980s. Gift of Nancy McDowell, 1993.

Naomi B. Clawson (1817-1872) was an Orthodox Quaker woman who lived in Wayne County, Indiana, and married John Henley (1815-1899) in 1842. This collection consists of letters written to her by relatives in Morgan County, Indiana, Clinton County, Ohio, and the Friends Mission in what is now Kansas. Purchase from John Nixon Collection, 2002.

Scope and Contents Naomi Painter Curl (1817-1894) was an Orthodox Friend of Pickerelltown, Logan County, Ohio. These fifty letters from friends and relatives concern personal and Quakers affairs. Included are several letters from David Hunt, Naomi's uncle and superintendent of Friends Boarding School in Richmond, Ind., and his daughter Mary D. Hunt, later Andrews. Nathaniel Carter Diary

The collection consists of a diary written by Nathanial Carter. Carter regularly reflects on his progress in religious life and reports on what happened in his meeting. He also is a typical farmer, giving close attention to the weather and the markets for crops. Finally, he chronicles his community, recording events in the lives of family and neighbors, especially births, deaths, and marriages. The Carter diary was a gift from the Rev. Floyd L. Cook of Indianapolis some time before 1975.

This collection consists of transcripts of oral history interviews done in 1982 with long-time members of Extension Homemakers Clubs across the United States as part of the "Voices of American Homemakers" project. The collection documents numerous facets of American women's lives in the twentieth century. Attached is a listing of interviewees with places. The transcripts include releases and biographical questionnaires.

National Friends Insurance Trust (NFIT)

Scope and Contents The National Friends Insurance Trust collection consists of correspondence, court redords, and financial records, documents the case of NFIT versus Philip E. Harmon. Harmon was the administrator of NFIT, and he was convicted of embezzeling $27 million dollars from subsidary organizations belonging to NFIT. Harmon was charged in 1997 of 5 counts of complain.
