Biography

Tom King, a California Friend, was interested in the history of liberal Quakers on the West Coast. He was a member of San Jose Friends Meeting, joining as a member in 1975. He served on the meeting's Library Committee, Property Committee, and as recording clerk.

Tom King, a California Friend,was interested in the history of liberal Quakers on the West Coast. He transcribed the diaries and letters of Joel Bean (1825-1914), a central figure in 19th century Quakerism and founder of what became Pacific Yearly Meeting. The original diaries and letters are at Swarthmore, but Swarthmore gave us permission to reproduce the transcripts here.
