Biography

Lewis Alden Estes (1815-1890), a Quaker from Maine, was one of the two faculty when Friends Boarding School opened in 1847. He had attended Bowdoin College for two years but left because Quaker elders warned him that he was endangering his standing as a Friend. He remained on the faculty until 1855, before leaving to teach in Quaker academies in other parts of Indiana.
