Biographical or Historical Information

Harold N. Tollefson was born in Newport, Rhode Island, February, 10 1901, the son of Theodore and Velsina Tollefson, immigrants from Norway. A convinced Friend, he attended the Union Biblical Seminary in Westfield, Indiana, where he refused to follow William M. Smith, its principal, in withdrawing from the Five Years Meeting. Recorded a minister by New England Yearly Meeting, he served pastorates in Maine, Minnesota, Indiana, and Ohio. From 1944 to 1950, he was executive secretary of Baltimore Yearly Meeting (Homewood), and then was on the staff of the Five Years Meeting in Richmond, Indiana. he married Gladys Jones (1900-1982) of South China, Maine in 1924. He died in Richmond, Indiana, July 28, 1982.
