Scope and Contents

The collection consists of five images. One may be a self-portrait of Watson dated 1852. Two others are of Thomas Jay (1813-1890) and his wife Sarah (Yount) Jay (1819-1901), Quakers who lived near West Milton, Ohio. The others are of a young man holding a cigar, a post-mortem child's picture, and an unidentified man.

Biographical or Historical Information

Joseph Watson was a daguerrotype artist of Richmond, Indiana, in the 1850s and 1860s. Born in Rhode Island about 1824, he began to advertise in Richmond newspapers in 1852. He was still in Richmond in 1861.
