Scope and Contents
Esther Jordan was an enthusiastic genealogist for many years and collected extensive material on her own and her husband's ancestry. Her organization by family groups and correspondents has been retained. Although most of the collection is genealogical it does include clippings and other items relating to the Jordan's' religious and civic activities.

Biographical or Historical Information
Esther (Fouts) Jordan was a genealogist who lived in New Castle, Indiana. She and her husband were descended from a number of families that settled early in Wayne and Henry counties, Indiana. This collection embraces her genealogical research and correspondence.
Esther Fouts was born near Centerville, Indiana, May 8, 1902, the daughter of Dr. John M. and Flora (Jones) Fouts. She graduated from Indiana University. On February 12, 1926, she was married in Richmond, Indiana, to Willard Thomas Jordan. He was born in Perry Township, Wayne County, Indiana, June 18, 1900, the son of Frank W. and Hattie (Ward) Jordan. They moved to New Castle in 1934, when he took a position with the Henry County Building and Loan Association. He became its president in the 1960s. He died April 23, 1972. Esther Jordan was active in New Castle civic life and the Methodist church. She died January 7, 1993.
