Scope and Contents
This collection, consisting mainly of her diaries, documents life in a small Midwestern town and Friends meeting. The Thomas diaries are unusually detailed and conscientiously kept, supplemented by newspaper clippings, notes, and letters. They are concerned mainly with Thomas's day-to-day activities and community life.

Biographical or Historical Information
Margaret Woollen Thomas was an Earlham College graduate, class of 1938, and life-long Friend who spent her life in Fairmount, Indiana.
Margaret Woollen was born in Fairmount, Indiana, October 2, 1916, the daughter of Dr. David M. and Effie (Jones) Woollen. She attended Fairmount schools and entered Earlham College in 1934, graduating with the class of 1938. Returning to Fairmount, she was married March 5, 1939, to Roger H. Thomas (1916-1991), a Fairmount banker and insurance agent.
Born to a well-to-do family, Margaret Thomas inherited significant farm acreage and investments from her father. Her life was devoted to clubs, civic groups in Fairmount and to the Fairmount Friends Meeting, where she was an elder and organist.
