John L. DeForest Collection
Scope and Contents
In 1998 DeForest created “A Fifty-Year Memoir of a Connecticut Friends Meeting.” Based on his personal diaries, it is a chronicle of events in the life of the Stamford-Greenwich Friends Meeting. De Forest’s “Fifty Year Memoir” is an unusual glimpse at Quaker life in New England for over half a century. It includes accounts of meetings for worship; the building and repair of a meeting house; guest speakers; various kinds of social activism; social gatherings; and committee meetings.
