James Ladd Collection
James Ladd (ca. 1740-1806) was a Quaker minister of Henrico Monthly Meeting residing in Charles City County, Virginia. The collection consists of diaries, 1776-1798, of his travels as a minister among Friends in Virginia and Pennsylvania, with reflections on slavery and Quaker affairs. The collection includes Thorpe’s own correspondence, publications, and research, as well as notes from his many trips around the world. Overall, the James Thorpe papers provide a look into the field of soil science during the middle decades of the twentieth century.
James W. Borden Collection
James Wallace Borden (1810-1883) was a native of Carteret County, North Carolina. In 1834 he relocated to Richmond, Indiana, where he practiced law and was active in Democratic politics. He moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana in 1839, where he lived until his death, save for a term as U.S. minister resident to Hawaii. This collection consists of a history of the Borden family that he wrote in 1863. Purchase, 2009.
