Scope and Contents Micah Newby (1790-1853) and his second wife, Mary Dicks Coffin Newby (1792-1882), were Friends of Blue River Monthly Meeting in Washington County, Ind., and Raysville Meeting in Henry County, Ind. These papers consist of nine letters, 1822-1853, from Mary Newby's father, Bethuel Coffin (1756-1839), and brother Elijah Coffin (1798-1862) in Guilford County, North Carolina, and Wayne and Henry counties in Indiana. Also: arithmetic book, 1816-1818. Gift of John E. Parker, 1970.

Scope and Contents Isabel Albertson (1816-1856) was an Orthodox Friend of Blue River Monthly Meeting, Washington County, Ind., the daughter of Dr. Benjamin and Sarah (Parker) Albertson. In 1834 she married William N. Trueblood (1809-1901). This autograph book contains sentiments from other Blue River Friends.

Scope and Contents Lydia (Thomas) Baldwin (1814-1899), wife of Thomas Baldwin (1813-1899), was an Orthodox Friend who lived near Fairmount in Grant County, Ind. The collection consists of a reminiscence written in 1897, with a transcript. Subjects include early Quaker settlers of Grant County, the Underground Railroad, Anti-Slavery Friends, and pioneer life. Joel Bean Collection

Scope and Contents Joel Bean (1825-1914) was a prominent Gurneyite Friend of West Branch, Iowa and San Jose, California, and a leading critic of revivalism among Friends in the 1880s and 1890s. This collection consists of a copy of his entry in the Haverford Dictionary of Quaker Biography, and a copy of a 1906 letter on the Revival movement.

Edward Bellis Collection

Scope and Contents Edward Bellis (1827-1921) was a Friend born at Newcastle-on-Tyne, England, who emigrated to Richmond, Ind. in 1848. This autobiography, written in 1920, deals with his life in England, emigration to the US, and his activities as a Friend. Also included in the collection are letters to Harlow Lindley from Bellis and Joseph Dickinson. Transferred from Harlow Lindley Collection.

Earl A. Thomas Collection

Scope and Contents Earl A. Thomas (1900-1927) was a Richmond, Ind. resident and onetime member of First Friends Meeting there who served as a US Naval Aviator during the US intervention in Nicaragua in 1927. He apparently was killed by Sandino forces. The collection consists of four letters by Earl Thomas to his mother Gertrude Thomas of Richmond, June 11-September 20, 1927, with newspaper clippings and correspondence relating to his death. Photocopies donated by Caroline Higgins, 1992.
