Sarah Ann Morris Collection

Sarah Ann (Hill) Gray Morris (1827-1903) was a Quaker living in the Walnut Ridge community of Friends in Rush County, Ind. The collection consists of a scrapbook with a number of obituaries, 1866-1903, of Walnut Ridge Friends, and a photograph album with photos of area Friends and prominent ministers such as John Henry Douglas, Robert W. Douglas, Jane Jones, and Rufus King.

Sarah Cooper Papers

Scope and Contents

Sarah Cooper (born 1803, Maryland), was an Orthodox Friend, the daughter of Nicholas and Sarah (Balderston) Cooper. She moved to Belmont County, Ohio, in 1832, where she was a member of Flushing Monthly Meeting. In 1837 she married Joseph F. Garretson (ca. 1812-1840) and second, in 1846, John Michener (1785-1872). She died after 1880. All of the letters predate her marriages.

Sarah Woollen (Hubbard) Hadley Johnson was a Quaker born near Monrovia, Ind., in 1883, who died there in 1953. This collection consists of a ledger entitled "My Folk," with notes on her ancestors--the Hadley, Hubbard, Hunt, and Henley families.

Civil war letters written to Sarah Ratliff (1859-1914): The bulk of the collection consists of letters written her by three of her brothers, two cousins and a friend while in the Union Army. John Miller Legg's (1831-1911) Diary and memorandum: Rush Co. farmer. The typescript of the diary also includes a history of the Legg family (p. 116-118) by Alice Rebecca Legg Mayse

Scope and Contents Early publications resembling yearbooks included Fond Recollections (1891-?), Class of Ninety-Six (1896), and The Earlhamite Annual (1902, 1907-1908).Consecutive annuals began in 1906 with the publication of the Sargasso (1906, 1909-2008). The last print edition was made in 2002. It was released on DVD from 2003-2008 without a print version. The yearbooks were not made after 2008.
