John Frederick Hanson Collection

John Frederick Hanson (1841-1918) was a native of Norway who emigrated to the US in 1856. He became a Friend in Iowa. Later, he became a well-known minister and revivalist in Iowa and Oregon, where he died. This collection consists of an autobiography and biographical material compiled by family members. Photocopies provided by Arthur O. Roberts. A larger collection of Hanson papers is available on microfilm.

Historical materials relating to the South Eighth Street Friends Meeting in Richmond, Ind., almost entirely reminiscences of Benjamin Johnson (1833-1927), father of John H. Johnson. Included are a list of pastors, a list of charter members, a history of the Prayer Meeting formed in 1860, and a history of the formation of the meeting. Transferred from vault at Richmond First Friends, 1990.

John H. Sweitzer (1917-1992) was Manager of Plant and Purchases at Earlham College 1952-1983 and an active Quaker. This small collection consists of material relating to his work as a conscientious objector in Civilian Public Service during World War II and material relating to the controversy over the AFSC World Affairs Institute at Camp Clements in Richmond, Indiana, in 1960.
